The Many Benefits of Lighting Control

Lighting Control has many benefits for you and your home

The Many Benefits of Lighting Control

Have you considered automating the lights in your home?

This trend is getting more popular every day as a great deal of homeowners enjoy the benefits of automated lighting systems. Remodeling a home’s lighting fixtures is a great way to update and modernize a dwelling, and an important thing to focus on if you are building a new house. Automated lighting control is convenient, enhances security and saves money. The amount and quality of light affects us, our moods, our ability to see, and our sleep cycles. It also indicates to anyone outside the home that someone is present inside.

When you renovate your home, it is always a good idea to turn to home automation solutions. That way you can gain control over the things that affect the atmosphere at your property, including the lighting. So without further ado, here are the many benefits of automated lighting.

Automated Lighting Helps You Sleep Better

When it is time to close your book or turn off the television in order to get some rest, too much light can prevent you from getting a good night’s sleep. So can getting out of a cozy bed to turn the lights off. In the old days, wealthy people had light switches installed within easy reach from the beds for this exact purpose. In the current day and age we can turn to technology. For example, having a light control module to turn lamps on and off around the house from a single control can help you ease into a healthy sleep. You can even control smart lights from various applications on your smartphone.

Automated Lighting Helps Our Moods

During the day, we need light to help us feel both awake and alert. At night, we need less light to signal to our bodies that it is soon time to doze off. An automated lighting control system that turns lights on and off on a timer is a great way to ease our bodies and minds throughout the day. More light can be mood elevating, and dimmer light can be relaxing or sedating, so timed lights and a dimmer work well together to set our moods.

Automated Lighting Helps With Home Security

When we travel, a lack of lighting control may very well indicate to others that no one is home. That means the house may appear easier to burglarize. Having lamps on a set schedule, or lamps we can check on and control with a smartphone application while away from the house, are good steps toward ensuring we can return home to find everything is safe and sound.

Automated Lighting Helps Save Money

How many times during any given day or night do you enter a room, turn on the light, and forget to turn it off when you leave that room? It is actually an incredibly common occurrence that wastes a significant amount of electricity. The good news is that lights with occupancy sensors turn on lights automatically when someone comes in the room. Vacancy sensors turn off lights when no one is in the room. This feature certainly goes a log way in helping to save money on the electricity bill. Humans may forget to turn off the lights, however light sensors never forget.

Your Smart Home goes hand in hand with a Professional Home Network

Install your Home Network with Systems Design for a reliable Smart Home System

Your Smart Home goes hand in hand with a Professional Home Network

Why is a solid network crucial to a smart home system or just a home in general?

It is important for your home to run efficiently, therefore a professional home network is an important key factor in making your smart home operate reliably.

A strong home network is a foundation to any electronic lifestyle you would like to achieve.  Let’s take a few steps back, when you build a home, the first important key factor is a strong foundation.  Likewise, in a smart home, a strong network is the foundation of all electronic integrations in your home.

If you are investing thousands of dollars into your smart home equipment, the performance of the devices is only as good as the network they are on.  The reality is that the comcast router will not work for your whole house smart home equipment, this solution might do the trick for a small studio or a one-bedroom condo, but if you are planning to integrate a lot of technology, and want a smooth, fast and reliable network – a Home Network is the first step to making all run flawless.

STOP for a second and lets think, you are building a new home, or just moved into a large home – you have a few phones, lets say you have 4-5 smart TV”s, a few laptops, a few iPad, including children’s devices that connect to the network, whole house audio system with multi-zones of audio, a home automation system that will control your thermostats, oh yes – your smart thermostats also connect to your WIFI- in a large home you have about 4-8 of them, you have Lutron or Savant Lighting that you will control from your Home Automation – each dimmer connects to a network.  Lighting alone you have about 15-25 devices that will connect to your WIFI. An average home has about 40-60 devices and it could go up higher the more devices are connected to the network.  A simple router from your provider will simply not do the trick.

A solid network is back bone to your smart home.  If you have a poor one, it will produce poor audio quality, and video streaming, slow speed and failed attempts to connect to your smart home system.

How Can Systems Design Help You?

Our process includes designing a home network system that will support your smart home and your lifestyle.  We will take steps to assess the system and ensure the connection is strong and reliable and is handling all of your smart home technology.  We use the best of home network technology available.  We install home networks, every week, and are very knowledgeable in getting the networking done and done right for you.  We will install and configure everything.  Not only you can pause the network, you will have the option of resetting it remotely from your computer or phone, and not having the need to go behind the AV Rack and finding the equipment that possibly need to be reset.

The Motorized shading industry is competitive, however that only means the prices are better and the options are endless.

Fully customized motorized shades that you can control from your Home Automation system or a smart device.

There are options to have pockets built that way the shades are not visible. Simple and elegant design exposes no wires or motors.  We can coordinate with your contractor or carpenter to have that all taken care of for you.

We come in to prewire the shades, install the shades, and do all the measuring for the shades and fabric, so the only thing you have to worry about is if you would like to create a scene to incorporate shades opening up during certain time of day, or enjoy the simplicity of pressing goodnight and the shades close automatically.

7 Ways Your Restaurant is Losing Money—And How to Fix It Technologically

If you own or work for a non-formal restaurant, this blog post is for you. These are seven of the most mistakes that restaurants are making and how to remedy them. Make these improvements, and watch your customers happier and restaurant crowded

7 Ways Your Restaurant is Losing Money—And How to Fix It Technologically

1) People want to watch something but they're not sure if they'll be able to get their channelor you don't even have a TV.

Solution? You're under-utilizing your TV and your cable package (which most people no longer have). You're a sports bar, but you only play sports games. Which is logical. But in this market, you need to do things that set you apart from the 12 other sports bars surrounding you. So many girls throw "The Bachelor" show parties in their apartments. Why not throw one at your business? And trust me—build your field for women and the men will come. Get creative. Make a calendar online of what you'll be showing, and with extra TV's leftover, people can sign up to use them for certain times (and add passive income to your business).

2) People are hot.

I can't tell you how many times various dining parties I've been apart of have gone to Leon's in Decatur, GA, just because of their fans that mist water. They are surrounded by other restaurants, but they do something that no one else in the vicinity does.

Solution? Check out these fans from Rapid Cool as well as these from Big Ass Fans.

3) People leave because there's a long wait.

This is one of the best problems you can have. But how do you keep those potentially frustrated or bored customers happy enough to wait 20-60 minutes for a table?

Solution? Consider putting TV Shield's outside your entrances and by the entrance patio if there is one. Dedicate one of your staff to start serving those customers drinks while they wait.

4) You're still using a clipboard for back-of-the-house tasks.

Solution? Proprietary software exists that will save you $1000's in time and money so you can focus on what really matters—your customers and the food. Manage invoices, track food and supplier prices, order supplies, and stop the madness of data entry at Orderly. Many notable local Atlanta chefs have had great luck with it.

5) You're still not using WiFi outdoors.

Solution? Look into Ruckus or Luxul and get your people some WiFi already.

6) You're using incandescent lights and the lighting fixtures are rusting.

Solution? Hands down, Coastal Source offers the best outdoor lighting on the market. The air-tight "o ring" in their wires is a bright orange circle that makes a popping sound when you open it. That means that water, dirt, food, nothing is going to get into these wires. Their offices are located in Key West, Florida so their engineers have often tested them against the elements and even completely underwater. They also use similar and like metals when constructing the fixtures. This may not seem like a big deal, but it is when other companies will use a nice fixture but then stick cheap sockets, connectors, and screws inside of the wires. These dissimilar metals will eventually corrode and it will need to be fixed or replaced. Coastal Source isn't inexpensive in the beginning stages, but it eventually becomes way cheaper than competitors since little to no maintenance is needed on their products.

7) You don't have a control system.

Solution? It's easier than ever to integrate your audio, video and lighting using existing wired and wireless networks that you already have in place. Imagine being able to press the "Sunday Ticket" preset and turn on all of your TV's, set the DirecTV boxes to their appropriate channels, and later in the evening trigger the "Outdoor Dining" scene which would turn on music and adjust lighting and water features—all from the front of house iPad.
